Task 1

Task 1 Complete

Today I finished my self evaluation of both learning Method (VARK) and Style (Honey & Mumford). The results from the questionnaire show that I have a kinesthetic method of learning and my style being Theory in nature. I found the results to be quite accurate and accurately portray the way I like to learn and the method by which I go about learning. Both questionnaires proved to be quite invaluable because not only did I have no idea that it was possible to categorise my learning style and method but further reading of the subject proved to provide some interesting information such as ways in which I can improve my learning and up take of knowledge.

Assignment PSD_1

Task 1: Record your results and reflect on your learning Style/Method.

Method
After completing both questionnaires I was presented with the results for both style and method. The VARK questionnaire assessing my learning style came back with the results of:-
·        Visual: 10
·        Aural: 13
·        Read/Write: 3
·        Kinesthetic: 13
My preferred learning style is kinesthetic which means I prefer a practical approach to learning and how I intake the information e.g. sense-sight, touch, taste, smell, hearing… kinesthetic learners tend to have a problem with digesting information if there is a feeling of the information being arbitrary or irrelevant.
Style
Upon completion of the Honey & Mumford questionnaire I was presented with the following results:

  •         Activist: 13
  •         Pragmatist: 13
  •         Reflector: 13
  •         Theorist: 15

The results show a clear lead in theory and an even field of the other styles shown in the results. Theorists excel when being show part of a system, model, concept or theory and being afforded the time to explore associations and interrelationships between ideas, events and situations. Theorists dislikes being plunged into a situation where the results seem pointless or without good reason behind it and also dislike gimmicky corporate rubbish such as “buzz” words like “Guestimate”, “Power-storm” and “Ringing the bells”. Strengths include practical applications of ideas and my favourite question is How does it work?

Conclusion

Upon inspection of the results from both method and style taking the time to analyse and compare the information. I find the results very accurate and I have gained an understanding of my cognitive thought process when processing new information and how I absorb it. Above all else this questionnaire has given me insight into myself and given me a whole new perspective on hw I go about research and study. Being a Kinesthetic Theorist makes me a practical, hands on learner who likes to ponder and then think about the system as a whole and what relationships it has with other systems and how I can manipulate these systems and implement them in a practical way.
